April 21st • 45/46 • 1-1 (D)
After a long season, today was the last day of school with the final home game of the season on a hot and sunny afternoon. Hull had lost in the early kick-off to keep Norwich's 0.7% chance of a playoff spot alive.
The first half was all Norwich, with several chances that we just didn't take. One chance in particular saw a cross fly across the face of the goal with Liam Gibbs unable to direct it home.
Not long into the second half, the inevitable happened and Swansea converted a (fairly soft) penalty. Those missed early chances felt even more frustrating now given that we had to win to take the season to the final game next week.
Half an hour later, in what had started to appear like busses, we won our second penalty in as many games when Kvistgaarden was brought down, and Kenny smashed it home with 7 minutes to play. Suddenly everyone perked up and the crowd was roaring for the rest of the game and the 7 minutes of stoppage time.
Unfortunately, it ended in a draw and the glimmer of hope of making the playoffs was extinguished. I'll be at the now dead rubber game against Hull next week to see the season out, and while it's a shame there's nothing riding on it, we have to be grateful we weren't needing a result at the other end of the table.
The lap of honour from the players and their families was a nice end to a turbulent season. Hard to believe that game against Millwall was so long ago, and it'll now be a few months before I'm back at Carrow Road to do it all again. Hopefully by this time next season, we're going up.
